Ithaca Flues Model Grade 3E Side X Side Double Barrel Shotgun

featuring Automatic Ejectors and chambered for 12 gauge 2 3/4" Cartridges

This is an outstanding “Factory ORIGINAL” Ithaca Flues Model Grade 3E Steel Barreled Shotgun, with Automatic Ejectors, Chambered for 12 gauge 2 ¾” Shells, and includes the original factory trigger guard hang tag. This grand vintage Ithaca Gun Co. Side X Side is simply beautiful, bearing serial number 3563XX it was manufactured in 1921 according to the Ithaca Factory Records. We do not provide photos of serial numbers in our listings, but we certainly do guarantee them original and matching. Folks this fine old "Emil Flues" designed Ithaca Shotgun is a real beauty, and you will look a long time to find a Grade 3E that even comes close, if you are lucky enough to ever see a better one for sale. It retains nearly all of its original metal & wood finishes throughout with the only signs of loss mainly due to to the age of this fine old double. The Factory Original Bluing on the barrels is excellent with no signs of loss from actual use, and the factory case colors on the action are clearly visible, but only in the less handled or cleaned areas with the balance being areas where the metal has been wiped during cleaning allowing some of the case colors to be removed or faded. The action is just like new, with the Locking Leaver resting firmly to the right side when closed indicating the gun saw little actual use. This is a Ithaca Grade 3, clearly marked as such on the water table as well as the barrel, and forearm. It was Special Ordered with Automatic Ejectors that operate perfectly, thus making it a Ithaca Grade 3E. Ithaca Shotguns when found in nice condition are very desirable with collector's and the higher the Grade or number the harder they are to find, simply because there were less of the high grade shotguns made also demanding a higher price. This gun is a Grade 3E with Number 3 Style Engraving including a Woodcock on one side, a Quail on the other, and a duck in flight on the bottom. The remainder of the action is decorated with fine Scroll Style Engraving. Each of these fine vintage Ithaca's were hand engraved by skilled engravers mostly European origin, every gun is different in some way, and some are much different depending on who it was made for. This particular Grade 3E has lots of lavish engraving, and is much closer in coverage to a Grade 4 with all metal parts including screws having some type of engraving, including the top, bottom, and sides, with even the leaver and trigger guard being decorated. Also complimenting this fine vintage double is the beautiful highly figured wood with the exceptional Fleur-de-lis Checkering Patterns. The wood is in amazing factory original condition with only the very slightest handling marks, and no deep marks, splits, cracks, or issues. Without a doubt this is truly an exceptional example! It wears a splinter style forearm with the button style release. The LOP is 14”. The drop at the comb is 2” with the drop at the heel being 2 ½”. Forearm metal parts, as well as the wood are of course correctly numbered to the gun. All of the parts have matching Serial Numbers including, the Trigger Guard; Water Table, Inner Frame, Barrels, and Forearm are all matching. The Pistol Grip Butt Stock wears the factory original Ithaca Company Logo with a flying bird graphic hard rubber butt plate installed, and the pistol grip is also finished with the original hard rubber grip cap. It also wears 28 Inch steel barrels, the right barrel being choked Improved Cylinder, and the left barrel Modified, with a full length solid rib, with a single brass bead front sight. This beautiful vintage Ithaca Double weighs a total of 7 pounds. We had a certified gunsmith with 40+ years in the industry go over the shotgun from front to back. His evaluation was that the Shotgun is close to new even though it is 90 years old, and felt it had very few rounds  fired through it. The chambers checked out to be 2 3/4 inches, and are in perfect condition. Making this fine shotgun complete it came with the original Green Ithaca Hang Tag which was attached to this shotgun when it left the assembly line. The tag although torn and tattered is legible and matches this guns specifics exactly. For those less familiar the Flues model was manufactured from 1908 thru 1926, and was named after the chief designer for Ithaca Emil Flues. An interesting fact! Although Flues worked for Ithaca Gun Co. he was only an independent contractor, and records indicate he was never a full-fledged employee of Ithaca Gun Co. Flues had several patents to his credit and also worked independently for the Newton Rifle Co. as well. Ithaca made Shotguns in the following grades 1 through 7, seven being the highest. They also made a spectacular Sousa Grade Shotgun named after the famous Band March King, John Phillip Sousa. These were special order only, were very expensive ,and very few ever made according to factory records. This fine vintage Grade 3E is a beauty, and would fit into the most discriminating Ithaca collection or for anyone who fancy’s fine American made double barrel shotguns. This is one of the finest examples we have seen in many years. Best of all its factory original! Just how often do you find shotguns that have not been modified, altered, or damaged in some way? This gun remains exactly as it left Ithaca, NY. 90 years ago with the original Ithaca Hang Tag.

Browning BSS Box Lock Ejector 12 Ga. Double Barrel Shotgun

Chambered for 12 Gauge 2 3/4" or 3" Magnum Shells with 26" solid Ribbed Barrels choked Improved and modified.

This great 1983 vintage double was manufactured by Browning Arms, and is fitted with a straight grip, hand checkered English style Walnut Stock, with a chackered beaver tail forend. The blued Steel frame has a nice scroll engraving, the tang and fore plate are lightly edged with all the bolts and screws done in a floral motif, along with some roll engraving around the breech end of the barrels. The butt is finished with a proper Browning hard plastic butt plate, and the single selective trigger is Gold Plated. If you are looking for a nice all around field gun this is it, neat, compact, and light to the feal as a 12 bore shotgun should be. Browning really put their best designers into this fine vintage shotgun, and came up with a winner.

Ithaca Lewis Grade 4  Double Barrel Damascus 12 Guage Shotgun

This Beautiful Vintage Shotgun was manufactured in 1904

Ther are more photos as you scroll down past the description!

You are viewing an Extremely Rare Ithaca "Lewis Model" Grade 4 Double Barrel Shotgun. This beautiful old side by side with serial #104XXX was manufactured in 1904, and is C&R eligible, and we will need a signed copy of your Federal Curio & Relic License, or a Signed copy of a regular Federal Firearms License for purchase. ***  Please read our description carefully, as this is a Very Rare Ithaca Double and it has been professionally restored about 30 years ago. A fine job that was very tastefully done, and is now a beautiful old classic in anyone’s eyes, and will certainly enhance any collection. It wears a gorgeous set of  28" black powder vintage Damascus Barrels that retain all of their delightful re-browning, which shows off the beautiful Damascus Scene pattern on the barrels forged by Ithaca barrel makers in 1904. The receiver still has traces of the factory original case hardening found in the recessed areas with the balance a pleasant gray color patina, not uncommon for the age of this old classic. When the decision was made not to re-case color the receiver, in our eyes it was a good one, mainly because of the engraving. This nice old classic Ithaca has factory Grade IV Style Engraving with some of the very best intricate and detailed engraving you would ever want to see. To destroy any part of it would be a real shame, and today to get a master engraver to re-cut the scenes would cost a small fortune! In our opinion the gun was designed by Ithaca in a very unusual configuration! It is a 12 gauge shotgun built on a 10 gauge frame. Yes, you read that correctly! In our opinion a Very Rare configuration!! As we see it, one or two things may have happened, (A) the shotgun was created as a special order for someone, or (B) at one time it was a two barrel combination set, one set 12 gauge the other 10 gauge. We received it as you see it with one set of "Plain Extractor" Damascus barrels measureing 28” that are choked Full & Full with the right a little tighter, and finished with an ivory bead front sight, probably a water fowl gun. The barrels are about 5/16ths thick at the chambers, weigh just under 9 lbs, and the bores are like mirrors that show no prior evidence of having any rust, pitting, or dents. Again the Damascus Scene pattern is outstanding! The delightful full coverage game scene engraving on the receiver as the photos show, bears a resemblance of a  working German Shorthair Pointer dog on the left side,  a working Golden Retriever dog on the right, a flying duck on the bottom, with a flying Woodcock on the trigger guard. The rest of the receiver is done in an elaborate scroll pattern. This very stylish and elaborate engraving is Ithaca’s Grade 4 pattern, and is so indicated on the water table (inside of the receiver). The forearm wood, locking mechanism, receiver tang, and water table “ALL” have matching serial numbers along with the #4 indicating the style of the shotgun! It is Very Rare to find any Ithaca's in the higher grade models especially in a Lewis Model since very few grade # 4, 5, 6, or 7 models were made in these early guns. Only a very elite group of people could afford one, they were very expensive shotguns in the 1900’s! Everything about this gun would lead you to believe it may have been a special order gun… just a little information for those less familiar with Ithaca Firearms Company, Ithaca NY. Ithaca began making double barrel shotguns in 1880, and the "Lewis Model" was the third model manufactured 1904 thru 1906. Yes, they were only made for three short years, making this model a very desirable collectors item.  There were some special order Lewis Grade shotguns made for presentation or gifts in a lot of cases. This model was also Ithaca’s first hammerless shotgun to offer "smokeless steel" barrels. The model was named after Chester Lewis who was one of the men who seamed, soldered, or braised the barrels together diring the mfg. process at Ithaca Gun Works. Now to describe the magnificent AAA grade wood on this great American Classic, we will let the photos speak for themselves, but the wood on this gun is absolutely breath taking. The highly figured light to dark contrasts and beautiful burrell is very impressive. The finishing touch added during manufacturing was the extra fancy checkering design that Ithaca only applied to their high grade shotguns. It is gorgeous! The length of pull is 13 ¾”, with a 2 1/2" drop at the comb, and 3” at the butt. The butt has been tastefully finished with a "Pachmayr old English" solid rubber recoil pad attached. This is one very stunning Ithaca Damascus Grade # 4 shotgun! If you fancy early Ithaca doubles or just collect fine quality guns, then this is a must have for your collection. There were very few High Grade Ithaca's made through out the years of production, and there very few like this one, if in fact this isn’t the only one of its kind… We buy and sell collector grade firearms of all types, and this is the only gun like this we’ve ever seen. This is definitely a gun worthy of further research. Don’t miss this great opportunity to add it to your collection. It is very doubtful you will ever see another exactly like it again!
